38 million Americans live in apartments today, and that number is only growing. With this increase, people living in them are starting to demand more. The standards for the apartment they will choose to call their home are on the rise, and it is important to know: What do they want? A recent survey conducted by the National Multifamily Housing Council decided to analyze the top priorities in the making of this decision. “Location, location, location,” ranked in at #1 priority. The research showed that while selecting an apartment, people looked for an apartment within walking distance to a grocery store, restaurant/bar, and public transportation. Being able to drive to work, children’s school, and university were also of concern in the apartment’s location. Another important aspect was the ability to make electronic payments (preferably by credit card- talk about racking up those points!) and do away with the old fashioned rent check. Additionally, as the online shopping industry booms apartments are effected in a new way. Apartment seekers reported in the survey that they had no desire to pay for a “package locker” and sought buildings with package areas. With the aging of a new generation faced with the decision to buy a home or rent an apartment, people are looking for certain amenities, wow factors to help solidify their choice. By understanding these interests apartment complex owners can create better appeal and strive to provide their renters with a personalized experience!
